You Really Don't Want to Miss This July Scoop!!
Aloha Guys! Today we are going to talk about something different. I am going to put down some engaging and fun sauciness of web series, books and my life.
Without further ado...
The ‘This is Us’ Hangover
I completed the show a month back and believe me, This is Us is a delightful watch. The characters are exceedingly real without a rosy front. The story revolves around the life of five characters; parents and their triplets. The triplets are born on the same day as their father, which also forms the underlining basis of the entire show.
The life of these unique set of triplets and their struggles have been shown from - infancy, adolescence to adulthood. The series helped me understand the importance of past experiences that shape our adult life.
You will especially fall in love with the parents - Jack and Rebecca, two of the many leads in the show. The troubles of black people in America who are subjected to racism has been vividly explored in this series along with the uncertainties of adoption. Incidents faced by people who are fat, black or extremely good looking are brought to the table.
At the end of it all, I understood every single one of the characters to be people with their own set of strengths and flaws, just like anyone else in our own life. Most importantly, it changed my perception of love. The kind of love showed in the series is so wholesome that one is going to need a box of tissues to wipe their tears in every episode. And yes, they will be happy tears!
This incredible masterpiece has paved its way into becoming one of my favourite shows of all time.
My Favourite Read from 2020
A Place For Us: A story about a disoriented Indian-Muslim family dealing with issues hammered through years of moments bygone.
Hadia, the perfect child, has a love marriage instead of the society dictated arranged one. Her simple act of courage brings the broken family of five together.
With the story transcending between two time zones - past and present, the family’s tale is shared most gracefully. Author, Fatima Farheen Mirza, explains the abandonment of Amar - the son and black sheep of the family, and his confrontation with parents, Layla and Rafiq, years later.
‘There is another way. Come back, and we will make another path.’ And if he says no, and if he says nothing, will you say this: ‘I used the wrong words. I acted the wrong ways. I will wait, until you are ready. I will always wait for you.’
A Place For Us narrates the tale of girls who stood up to their father’s aspiration for his children, while the son falls short of the expectations.
The book intertwines the thin strings of love, understanding, tragedy and forgiveness. Subtle incidents like Hadia’s indecision when it came to wearing a Burkha or Amar’s unconditional love, make the story last forever in my heart.
